To be completely honest I had eagerly anticipated this book and devoured the first third of it as soon as it downloaded to my Kindle. Nevertheless it was real and poignant. They LOVED it!!. So, I have 100 pages remaining, but am SO pumped and happy that I have this snippet of time to WRITE a review.If you're passionate about your writing, your art, your whatever-makes-your-precious-heart-sing & be happy I highly recommend Gilbert's book -- this one. It is another perspective ofwhat it was like to be in the middle of it and not observedfrom the outside as an academic and is a welcome addition tothe library of Hurricane Katrina books that are now out.I was troubled when Phyllis said in her presentation at theLouisiana Book Festival that she had not read her own bookbut she assured me she meant that she did not want to review itafter it was completed because it was such a painful experiencereliving the ordeal over again as she recounted it.I understand she is now out of the fema trailor and has purchaseda new home and will be continuing university studies and possiblyplaying herself in a television series about New Orleans.I knew she would prevail in the end!
